MINI LIVING – INVERT opens its doors in Melbourne.

The MINI LIVING – INVERT exhibition officially opens its doors in Melbourne tonight.

The exhibition houses 13 architectural models designed to match a brief built around sustainable, small-scale living in an urban environment.

The 1:20 scale models have been designed and built by some of Australia’s best established and emerging architects, who were tasked with using a six by ten metre plot in Melbourne’s city centre to create a home suitable for a young family of four.

The MINI LIVING – INVERT project is a joint venture between MINI Australia, green magazine, RMIT and the City of Melbourne. The featured architects have come from renowned agencies including panovscott, Austin Maynard Architects, David Luck Architecture, and Loose Leaf.

RMIT Master of Architecture student Samuel Kakkoufas will also have his design on display at MINI LIVING – INVERT, having been selected from a quality field of designs submitted by RMIT students.

MINI Australia general manager, Tony Sesto, is excited to open the doors to this unique exhibition. "The MINI LIVING – INVERT exhibition is an inspiring representation of urban living and a creative use of space.

“This exhibition demonstrates just how easy it is to reduce our impact, increase the functionality of our living spaces and share these experiences with our families and neighbours."

“Becoming resource-conscious and embracing small-scale living doesn’t mean you have to forego modern luxuries,” Sesto said.

When the doors open tonight, it will mark the first iteration of MINI LIVING in the Southern Hemisphere. The architects involved will also hold a number of workshops, for which tickets are already sold out. The presentations will be filmed and published online next week at

MINI LIVING – INVERT will run between October 4-8, at a glasshouse on the site of the proposed brief at the rear of 200 Little Collins Place, Melbourne. From Wednesday through Saturday it will be open from 10am to 5pm, and then from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
